27 June - 7 July 2014

The CRCEES 7th Annual Summer School “Russian Culture in Baltic Nature” was a joint event between CRCEES and the European University at St Petersburg, St Petersburg.

The summer school was held in three of the capitals of the region: Helsinki, Saint Petersburg and Tallinn, from 27 June-7 July 2014. The programme analysed the international and transborder dimensions of natural and cultural heritage using the theory and practice employed for heritage management.

Participants explored and discussed all aspects of the heritage phenomenon. They studied natural and cultural heritage objects such as forts and palaces, roads and bridges, rivers and valleys, museums and churches - in other words historic landscapes. They looked for “russian” in “non-russian” and vice versa. They also explored the current use, preservation, representation and management of heritage.
