Prof Martin Weides is the leader of the Quantum Circuits Group and one of the Associate Directors of the newly established Centre for Quantum Technology at the University of Glasgow.

Prof Weides is working with industrial partners Kelvin Nanotechnology, Oxford Instruments NanoScience, Oxford Quantum Circuits, SeeQC UK and academic colleagues from Royal Holloway University of London to industrialise the design, manufacture, and test of superconducting quantum devices.

Originally funded under an Innovate UK project, the consortium has established fabrication and testing capabilities and services for the quantum academic and industrial community. For most companies accessing the equipment and expertise required for the development of state-of-the-art cryogenic components is a daunting and expensive task. This project is addressing an important gap in the supply chain and route to commercialisation of superconducting quantum devices and will accelerate their commercial uptake into a range of different systems.

Prof Weides said “By industrialising the design, manufacture, and test of new superconducting quantum devices we are making it possible for companies to incorporate these sophisticated components into new systems, accelerating their uptake and opening up innovation in sensing, security and computing”.

Our Centre’s excellent research and unique capabilities are contributing to position the UK at the forefront of the quantum revolution which will have a large impact on the economy bringing high skilled employment and investment and delivering a new generation of quantum-enabled devices.
